[The memory pans, a sudden dizzying sweep downwards before turning back up to face a boy that Izuku won't immediately recognize, hair unstyled and hanging dark in his face. What will give it away is the telltale scar over his left eye, and the way his forearms and hands have reflexively hardened as he stands there wanting to jump in and help...but can't seem to do anything. All he does is stand there, teeth grit and sweat dripping off his chin, until out of nowhere someone rushes over and puts herself between the students and the man.
Ashido. She says something to him, inaudible from this distance, as he glowers at the three for a long, tense moment before lumbering away.]
[Not much else happens, for better or worse. The girls that Ashido had jumped in to save both break down and start thanking her profusely, while Kirishima continues to stand back, rooted to the spot and unable to do a thing. Not like he could now...the threat has passed, and who knows what might have happened if Ashido weren't there to intervene.
Then, as soon as the memory started up it goes away again as their connection breaks off with a hissed curse under Kirishima's breath.]
[HE'S....not, mostly because he really didn't want Izuku to see that. But it's too late to really take it back now, though he knows Izuku isn't the type to go around telling people about others' business, at least.
Kirishima looks away though, unable to look at him right now.]
Well, hadn't he been something like that, once? He'd been more talk than action. ]
Kirishima-kun, I don't think any of us are the people we once were. That's...part of being alive, and growing up, isn't it? I'm sure we all have times we're not proud of, but the important thing is to make sure we're people we can be proud of now...don't you think?
I...know the feeling, but...I don't think you should feel ashamed of where you came from, Kirishima-kun. You wouldn't be who you are today without that past, you know? No one is perfect from the start...or even at the end.
[Kirishima breathes a slow sigh, looking back up at the mechs they're expected to pilot once they get around to mastering this whole link they're having to do. Progress halted, at this rate.]
Did you struggle too, Midoriya? You've always seemed like you got everything together...or have some sort of plan for the way you want to get things done, yaknow?

Izuku hesitates, uncertain what to say or do.
Time to keep watching for the moment? ]

K - Kirishima-kun?
[ You okay, bro? ]

Kirishima looks away though, unable to look at him right now.]
...sorry.

[ It's not like he's mad so much as confused... ]
no subject
[Do anything. Not when he should have. But that's not the appropriate answer now.
Kirishima drags a hand down his face.]
The connection. I caused it to break.

[ By what they saw... ]
no subject
Yeah.
[He sounds frustrated, even if it's just a memory.]
Guess you see now that I ain't the guy I once was. Kinda all talk, these days.

[Mm.]
I guess it's just hard thinkin' that I could have ever been like that. Especially with how far I've gotten now.

[ They wouldn't be human if that were the case. ]

[ Since he never actually had "his own" quirk. ]
So for a long time, I didn't really know how becoming a hero would work.
no subject
It's a lot more work than you think it'd be, even knowing it's gonna be a lot of work.
no subject
[ You know, which is the point - ]
But...even so, it all still feels more than worth it.
no subject
[Well...MOST of them don't.]

[ HE
HE MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS EASIER ]

Heheh...okay, yeah, you got a point there I think.
no subject
But I think he's caught on now, so.
