It probably starts with the brush of someone else's emotions against your own. Not quite memories yet, but just Izuku's sense of excitement and academic curiosity... ]
IN THAT CASE let's do Izuku's memory first before Depression
[Kirishima can feel it. It's...strange, but not necessarily in a bad way? He and Izuku are cut from similar cloths, at least when it comes to their optimism and eagerness about most things. Kirishima's got a very distinct flavor of manly toughness that's almost comedic that pairs oddly well with what Izuku's feeling.]
Kirishima is already like, overwhelmed and smitten by how wholesome this memory is. He figured that Izuku was probably cute and bubbly as a child, but his imagination clearly paled in comparison to what he's actually bearing witness to, here.
[ Okay, look. They're mentally linked or whatever right now so the second Kirishima says that he can FEEL how Izuku completely disagrees, their meld wavering for a moment... ]
I-I mean, Crimson Riot is okay...but he's not All Might.
Yeah, I think so! Guess we shouldn't have any problems-
[Kirishima says, his famous last words...because even with the topic of All Might on the brain, it has Kirishima thinking about Heroes. Things that inspired him...inspired to rise up from his roots.
And before either of them know it, what they're seeing suddenly shifts to Kirishima's perspective, and it's not from that of a toddler, but someone in middle-school as a terrified scream rings out around a corner, two students being harassed by a much larger man who looks the part of a Villain, if he isn't actually one in general...]
[The memory pans, a sudden dizzying sweep downwards before turning back up to face a boy that Izuku won't immediately recognize, hair unstyled and hanging dark in his face. What will give it away is the telltale scar over his left eye, and the way his forearms and hands have reflexively hardened as he stands there wanting to jump in and help...but can't seem to do anything. All he does is stand there, teeth grit and sweat dripping off his chin, until out of nowhere someone rushes over and puts herself between the students and the man.
Ashido. She says something to him, inaudible from this distance, as he glowers at the three for a long, tense moment before lumbering away.]
[Not much else happens, for better or worse. The girls that Ashido had jumped in to save both break down and start thanking her profusely, while Kirishima continues to stand back, rooted to the spot and unable to do a thing. Not like he could now...the threat has passed, and who knows what might have happened if Ashido weren't there to intervene.
Then, as soon as the memory started up it goes away again as their connection breaks off with a hissed curse under Kirishima's breath.]
[HE'S....not, mostly because he really didn't want Izuku to see that. But it's too late to really take it back now, though he knows Izuku isn't the type to go around telling people about others' business, at least.
Kirishima looks away though, unable to look at him right now.]
Well, hadn't he been something like that, once? He'd been more talk than action. ]
Kirishima-kun, I don't think any of us are the people we once were. That's...part of being alive, and growing up, isn't it? I'm sure we all have times we're not proud of, but the important thing is to make sure we're people we can be proud of now...don't you think?
that's totally what he's getting and he can die of adorable...

DEPRESSION...
Specifically...
A memory from the point of view of a very small Izuku, running into a room and shouting I AM HERE as his mother giggles behind a couch.

What else does he get to see?]

Oh my god, Midoriya. I can't handle this, I'm gonna die from wholesome overdose.

[ No, he watched it EVEN MORE ]

[He teases, the sense of amusement carrying over their connection as Kirishima gets to watch little Izuku absolutely obsess over All Might.]

[ LET HIM LIVE, KIRISHIMA ]

Just not as cool as Crimson Riot.

I-I mean, Crimson Riot is okay...but he's not All Might.
no subject
Nah nah, he's not! All Might is still like, the number one top hero and stuff, for sure.
[Izuku, please.]
Either way it looks like this thing is workin' out pretty okay...
[For now.]

It's a little weird being able to feel what you're feeling like this, but it seems like we're a good match?

[Do anything. Not when he should have. But that's not the appropriate answer now.
Kirishima drags a hand down his face.]
The connection. I caused it to break.

[ By what they saw... ]

Yeah.
[He sounds frustrated, even if it's just a memory.]
Guess you see now that I ain't the guy I once was. Kinda all talk, these days.
