[He's so brave until it comes to talking about the things he wants. Katsuki ignores him as he focuses on his food, already getting it's likely something mushy and thus not something he's gonna up and give him right off the bat.]

"Good boy, Deku. You didn't skip your meal this time. So proud of you."

[Just a prize, he says. You're not getting a prize for eating properly! That should be a prize in and of itself! Ugh... Did you mom give you candy for finishing your nori?]

[ Asking for what he wants is hard when having things forced is...not as much a draw? But Izuku makes a face at that weird little phrase. ]

[It sounded as weird coming out of him as going to Izuku. The sarcasm's obvious. There's a cot set up in the room by the way, newly-arrived between Izuku's departure and his return.

It never feels real when you say nice things, since it's usually not.

[ It just feels vaguely threatening? Or creepy? Izuku's not sure how to describe it. ]

And these are compliments. Not the crass sexual things he'll crank out when he's really going at him and feels like being a dirty mouth.]

[ Well...it's the same level of usual insults, just sexually charged. But still. ]

[And picks up another piece of sushi. Some of those compliments had been sincere. Particularly the ones when he spent the morning talking about what he liked about Izuku.

But sincerity comes with vulnerability.]

[ He definitely does ask for it sometimes, but...well, sometimes he wants it more. Other times it's just uncomfortable. ]
